The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality anticipates permit applications for several natural gas pipeline projects across the state, beginning in early 2025. Major projects will include:

DEQ will update the pages linked above with permitting activity, information on public comment period and hearings and any DEQ press releases related to the projects. Generally:

  • The Division of Energy, Mineral, and Land Resources (DEMLR) reviews applications for erosion and sediment control plan approval and construction stormwater (NCG01) permits for land disturbance activities.
  • The Division of Water Resources (DWR) reviews applications for 401 certifications for projects impacting streams and stream buffers.
  • The Division of Air Quality (DAQ) will review applications for permits allowing certain levels of emissions from compressor stations along the length of the pipelines.

Other federal and state agencies review various other aspects of the projects.
